The fundamentals of coffee filters work more or less in the same way. Filters are placed in the brewer to separate the coffee grounds and hot water so you’re not left with a heaping pile of grounds when you take a sip of the brewed coffee. But just like the type of coffee, brewer, and water you choose, the material of your filter has a big impact on the taste of your coffee

Paper filters are tightly woven and absorbent and are the most effective material in trapping most of the coffee oils and sediment. This produces a lighter, brighter, and cleaner taste in the coffee compared to other materials.

The main difference between #2 and #4 coffee filters is their size. #2 filters are used for 2–6 cup coffee makers, while #4 filters are used for 8–10 cup coffee makers.
